What Is the Add Watermark?

This tool stamps a text watermark onto every page of a PDF, entirely in your browser, with your choice of text, position, rotation, size, opacity, and color. The watermark text field accepts multiple lines for a multi-line stamp.

How Is the Add Watermark Calculated?

For every page, the tool measures the width of each line of your watermark text at the chosen font size, stacks the lines into a block (aligned per the position's left/center/right setting), and places that whole block at the position you selected — a corner, an edge midpoint, or dead center. If rotation is on, every line's position and orientation rotate together by 45 degrees around the block's own center, so multi-line text reads as one coherent diagonal stamp rather than each line spinning around a different point.

Add Watermark Example

Entering "DRAFT" at 30% opacity with Position set to Center and rotation on stamps a large, translucent diagonal "DRAFT" across the middle of every page. Entering two lines — "CONFIDENTIAL" and "Do not distribute" — stamps both lines stacked and rotated together as one block.

How to Use the Add Watermark

Step 1

Click the upload area or drag and drop a PDF file onto it.

Step 2

Enter the watermark text — press Enter for a second line if you want a multi-line stamp.

Step 3

Choose a position — a corner, an edge midpoint, or center — and whether it should rotate diagonally.

Step 4

Adjust font size, opacity, and color to taste.

Step 5

Click Add Watermark & Download to save the result.

Benefits

  • Marks every page as confidential, draft, or sample without installing any software.
  • Processes everything locally in your browser — files are never uploaded anywhere.
  • Lets you choose exactly where the watermark sits, not just a fixed diagonal center stamp.

Common Add Watermark Scenarios

Scenario 1

Marking a draft contract or report as DRAFT before it's finalized.

Scenario 2

Stamping CONFIDENTIAL diagonally across an internal document before sharing it.

Scenario 3

Adding a small, upright SAMPLE label in a corner of a preview document without covering the content.

Understanding Your Result

The downloaded PDF has the same content and page count as the original, with your watermark text drawn at the position and rotation you chose on every page, at the opacity you set.

Tips

  • Lower opacity (20-35%) keeps the watermark visible without making the underlying text hard to read.
  • Center + diagonal reads as a classic full-page stamp; a corner position with rotation off reads more like a small label.
  • Choose a color that contrasts with your document's background for better visibility.

Common Mistakes

  • Setting opacity too high, which can make the original page content hard to read.
  • Using very long watermark text in a corner position, which can run off the edge of the page.
  • Trying to watermark a password-protected PDF, which this tool can't open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

No, all processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript — your files never leave your device.

Can I control where the watermark appears?

Yes — use the Position selector to choose a corner, an edge midpoint, or center, and the "Rotate diagonally" checkbox to toggle the 45° diagonal stamp on or off.

Can I add more than one line of watermark text?

Yes — press Enter in the watermark text box to start a new line. All lines are stacked, aligned, and rotated together as a single block.

Can I use an image or logo as a watermark instead of text?

Not in this version — only text watermarks are currently supported.

Can I remove a watermark this tool added?

Not with this tool — once saved, the watermark is part of the page content. Keep your original file if you might need an unwatermarked copy later.

Can I watermark a password-protected PDF?

No, encrypted or password-protected PDFs can't be read by this tool — remove the password first using your PDF reader.

Can I preview the watermark before downloading the final PDF?

Check whether the tool offers a live preview — this lets you fine-tune position, opacity, and rotation before committing to the final download.

Does the watermark appear on every page, or can I choose specific pages?

Check the tool's page-selection options — some watermarking tools apply to every page by default while others let you target specific pages or ranges.

What opacity level is best for a watermark that doesn't obscure the content underneath?

A lower opacity (often in the 10-30% range) keeps the underlying content readable while still visibly marking the document — adjust based on your specific document's background and content density.
