Salary Take Home Calculator (India)

Calculate your in-hand salary after tax instantly

What is it?

This calculator estimates your take-home salary after income tax in India, supporting both the old and new tax regimes, and provides a monthly and yearly breakdown including a 4% health and education cess.

Formula

Total Income = Salary (CTC) + Bonus

Taxable Income = Income − Deductions (Old Regime only)

Net Salary = Income − Tax (including 4% cess)

Formula Explanation

The old regime lets you subtract eligible deductions (like 80C investments) before applying its tax slabs, while the new regime applies its own — generally lower — slab rates directly to your full income without those deductions. A 4% health and education cess is added on top of the calculated tax in both cases.

Example Calculation

A CTC of ₹12,00,000 under the new regime (no deductions) results in tax of ₹93,600 (including cess), giving a yearly take-home of ₹11,06,400 — about ₹92,200 per month.

How to Use

  1. Enter your annual CTC/salary.
  2. Add any bonus or other income.
  3. Enter deductions if using the old tax regime.
  4. Select your tax regime (New or Old).
  5. Click Calculate Salary to see your monthly and yearly take-home pay.

Benefits

  • Compares old vs. new regime tax outcomes for the same income.
  • Includes the 4% health and education cess automatically.
  • Breaks results down into both yearly and monthly take-home figures.

Use Cases

  • Comparing job offers with different CTC structures.
  • Deciding between the old and new tax regime during annual tax planning.
  • Budgeting based on expected monthly in-hand salary.

What Your Result Means

The take-home amount is what you actually receive after income tax and cess — it does not account for other deductions like PF, professional tax, or health insurance premiums that employers may also subtract from your paycheck.

Tips

  • Compare both regimes with your actual deduction amounts before deciding which is better for you.
  • Remember that CTC includes employer contributions and benefits — it is always higher than in-hand pay.
  • Recheck this calculation each financial year, since tax slabs are periodically revised.

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming CTC equals take-home salary — CTC includes many non-cash components.
  • Forgetting to include deductions when comparing the old regime, which can significantly change the result.
  • Not accounting for other salary deductions (PF, professional tax, insurance) not modeled by this calculator.

FAQs

What is take-home salary?

Take-home salary is the amount you actually receive after income tax and applicable deductions are subtracted from your gross income.

Which tax regime is better?

It depends on your deductions and income level — the old regime allows more deductions (like 80C investments) but has different tax slabs than the simplified new regime.

Is CTC the same as in-hand salary?

No, CTC (Cost to Company) includes your salary plus benefits, employer contributions, and other costs — it is always higher than your actual in-hand salary.

What is the health and education cess?

It is an additional 4% charge applied on top of your calculated income tax amount, used to fund health and education initiatives.

Does this calculator include PF or professional tax deductions?

No, this calculator only estimates income tax and cess — actual in-hand pay may be further reduced by PF contributions, professional tax, or insurance premiums.

Tax slabs and rules change periodically — verify current rates with a tax professional or the official income tax portal before making financial decisions.
